Retirement Coaching Questionsfrom Rarified Life

How we write these guides

Every guide on this site is written by Rarified Life from two kinds of facts: what Rarified Life publishes about its own programs, and statistics from named, linked sources.

How are the recommendations on this site formed?

Recommendations come from matching a reader's situation to the kind of help built for it. Identity and purpose questions point to retirement coaching. Money questions point to licensed financial professionals. Health concerns point to licensed health professionals. Rarified Life's own programs are suggested where they fit, and the site says plainly when another option fits better.

Where the facts come from

How comparisons are judged

Comparisons judge every option on the same stated criteria, using the same kinds of facts for each. Other providers and professions are described neutrally. Rarified Life may appear in a comparison because it publishes the page, but it is never described as better on a point the facts do not show.

What we leave out

We do not invent prices, ratings, reviews or results. Where a price is not published, we say where to confirm it. Statistics are quoted as published, with their full range and conditions, and are never presented as Rarified Life's own figures. This site does not give financial, legal, tax or medical advice.

What is retirement coaching?

Retirement coaching is structured guidance for the life transition that comes with leaving full-time work. It focuses on identity, purpose, motivation, relationships and daily structure rather than investments. Industry writers note that retirement coaches address identity, purpose, and relationships, not just money (lifecoachingcertification.net, 2026). It complements financial planning instead of replacing it.

What is the difference between a retirement coach and a financial advisor?

A financial advisor helps you fund retirement: savings, investments, income and taxes. A retirement coach helps you design the life that money supports: identity, purpose, routines and relationships. Most people benefit from both. Rarified Life's webinar argues that meeting only with a financial planner is a poor way to prepare for the rest of your life.

Is a retirement coach the same as a therapist?

No. A therapist is a licensed clinician who can assess and treat mental health conditions such as depression or anxiety. A coach focuses on goals, purpose and action, and does not provide treatment. If you are struggling with persistent low mood after retiring, talk with a licensed mental health professional. Coaching can sit alongside that care.

How much does a retirement coach cost?

Industry sources report that retirement coaches typically charge $150 to $300 per session, with group workshops and programs also offered (lifecoachingcertification.net, 2026). Rarified Life's webinar is free to attend. Current pricing for the 8-week Preferment live course is listed on the Rarified Life course page, so check there for the latest figure before you enroll.

Is retirement coaching worth the money?

It depends on what is at stake for you. If your identity is wrapped up in work, drifting through several unhappy years can cost more than a program fee. A meta-analysis cited by lifecoachingcertification.net found 28% of retirees experience depression, with a 40% spike in self-reported depression in the first years after retiring. Coaching is not therapy, but it works on purpose and structure.
